The Dakota NDT PZX1 series precision thickness gauge features accurate measurement of the thickness of thin substrates. The PZX1 gauge offers easy field calibration with one or two point options, and it has the ability to calibrate to a variety of different materials using the one point option. The user can select from eight common material velocities and two custom velocities. The gauge also features automatic and time dependent gain with manual override. Additional features include high speed scan, differential, high/low alarms, and VX velocity gauge. Transducer options are manually selectable from a list.

The high speed scan feature increases the overall repetition rate to a maximum of 140Hz with a high speed screen refresh rate of 25 times a second. This allows for making scanned passes over an arbitrary length of the test material, while still maintaining a reasonable representation of thickness over the area or region scanned. The alarm feature, with high and low limits and audible and visual indicators, can be used in conjunction with the high speed scan. Differential mode provides the user with the ability to set a nominal value, according to what the expected thickness should be, and measure the +/- difference from the nominal value entered.

In addition to the various measuring modes for thickness, the gauge features a velocity setting (VX). When enabled, the PZX1 will display the material velocity as the primary measurement quantity instead of dimensional thickness. The feature is generally used for basic “nodularity” testing, as velocity is a key part of density for determining hardness.

The data logging version (PZX1-DL) includes sequential data storage for 40 files of 250 readings per file (10,000 readings total). This model includes a USB-C download cable in addition to the standard accessories. Software is not required for this unit because the data is formatted as a .csv text file.

PZX1 Gauge Applications:

  • Precision machining
  • Stamping
  • Aircraft
  • Automotive
  • Thin plastics
